NANS demands an investigation into the attack on a lecturer at UNIZIK.

In response to TikTok recording, student named Precious Goddy violently attacked lecturer named Dr. Chukwudi Okoye at Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Anambra State. The incident was denounced by the National Association of Nigerian Students on Wednesday. NANS has always been at the forefront of promoting students' rights while also upholding discipline, respect for authority, and adherence to the laws governing the institutions, according to statement made by the Senate President, Babatunde Akinteye, in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State. He cautioned students to always respect legitimate authority and stated that misbehavior and acts of violence have no place in educational institutions across the country. According to Akinteye, "NANS has consistently been in the forefront of of promoting academic freedom, students' rights, and supportive learning environment. But we also respect authority, maintain discipline, and follow the laws that govern our institutions. Given this, we vehemently denounce the recent incident at UNIZIK in which student violently attacked lecturer because of TikTok video. "Misconduct and violent acts are not acceptable in our educational establishments. Respect between students and instructors is the foundation of educational institutions, which are citadels of learning. Students have the freedom to express themselves, including through social media, but they must do so within the parameters of decency, accountability, and consideration for others. "The student's reported behavior is disgrace to the student body and does not reflect the principles of of the student body in Nigeria. "As group that defends students' rights and welfare, we must also be clear that we do not condone any student who breaks the law, treats instructors disrespectfully, or participates in activities that damage the reputation of the academic community." "NANS stands for responsible student leadership and discipline, and it would not hesitate to call out any action that contradicts these principles," the Senate President emphasized. In view of this situation, we urge UNIZIK management to carry out comprehensive and objective inquiry in order to determine the case's facts. All sides must be given fair hearing and due diligence must be followed. But in the event that the pupil is convicted To act as deterrence to others, suitable consequences should be implemented in accordance with the institution's policies. He went on to say that the academic setting needs to be maintained as place of professional interaction, learning, and respect. As result, Akinteye advised students all around the country to always take their complaints to the proper channels and to abstain from any behavior that would jeopardize their future. He went on to say, "We have faith that the university administration will resolve this issue amicably, making sure that justice is administered in way that preserves the integrity of our educational institutions."
