Targeting Tinubu, Kwankwaso and El-Rufai Meeting – Shettima

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), met with Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, the outgoing governor of Kaduna State, on Thursday in Abuja as part of ongoing political realignment.

Kwankwaso had gone to the Abuja home to see El-Rufai. Images and a brief video from the encounter surfaced on the social networking platform X, showing Kwankwaso mingling with El Rufai and a few of his cronies.

This is in response to the meeting, as expressed in separate talks with LEADERSHIP Weekend by Yerima Shettima, the President General of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) and the All Progressive Congress.\

Kwankwaso, however, confirmed the encounter in his X post, writing, "Happy to pay a friendly visit to at his home in Abuja today is my erstwhile colleague, H.E. Nasir El-Rufai.

They have not yet made their conversation's specifics public, but a person close to them suggested that it was "part of the building of old ties and alliances that could culminate in a political alliance ahead of the 2027 general election."

Swearing in secret, an APC leader claimed the gathering was "nothing more than a gathering of resentful individuals, trying to reclaim their prominence."

Nonetheless, this is the first public gathering between Kwankwaso, the fourth-place candidate in the same election, and Elrufai, a crucial campaign for President Bola Tinubu in 2023, following the previous presidential election.

Despite his continued affiliation with the All Progressives Congress (APC), El Rufai has since

the Senate ruined the party's establishment soon after he was appointed as a minister.
In their respective states, El-Rufai and Kwankwaso are presently embroiled in political conflicts.

The protracted conflict between Kwankwaso, the head of the NNPP-led Kano government, and Ganduje, the national chairman of the APC, intensified due to the fierce contest for the Kano Emir seat and the prosecution of the state's most recent governor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje.

El-Rufai's rivalry with Governor Uba Sani, his political backer and successor in Kaduna, resulted in an indictment against him by the state assembly for allegedly embezzling ₦432 billion, a charge the former is contesting in court.

In recent weeks, Elrufai has started a tour of political engagements. He recently made a polite visit on
Former President Muhammadu Buhari in Katsina State's Daura countryside residence.

Additionally, he paid condolence visits to His Highness, Alh. Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, the Emir of Katsina, and Lawal Sani Sade, MD of Duke Oil, in Daura. He also met His Highness, Alhaji Umar Faruk Umar, the Emir of Daura.

At Government House in Katsina, the former governor also paid a visit to Governor Dikko Umar Radda.
Barely 24 hours had passed since El-Rufai's meeting with Buhari in Daura, where he was hosted by former vice president and 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential contender Atiku Abubakar.
Atiku had previously seen Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, the former military president, and Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, the former head of state, in addition to Buhari.

But prior to these series of trips, the former governor of Kaduna,
had discussions with the Social Democratic Party (SDP) leadership in March of this year, which sparked speculation about an impending departure from the APC.
However, Atiku and El-Rufai's visits to Buhari were characterized by Shehu Sani, a former senator from the Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the 8th National Assembly, as a scheme to remove Tinubu from office in 2027.

Yerima Shettima, the president general of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF), responded to the meeting between Kwankwaso and El-Rufai on Thursday by saying, "Well, elrufai has the fundamental right to relate and visit whoever he chooses." Nonetheless, there are undoubtedly political overtones to the visits that the opposition party members are making.

Remember that El-Rufai previously paid a visit to the Social Democratic Party (SDP). As a result, El-Rufai's recent visits to former President Muhammadu Buhari and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the NNPP's 2023 presidential candidate, undoubtedly have political overtones, with the apparent goal of deposing the current leader. However, only time will tell if these visits—and maybe many more to come will have a political impact, he added.

We have two debaters, Uche and Nneoma, who will present their arguments for and against the topic. Let's begin with our first speaker, Uche. *Uche (in favor of the topic):* Thank you, Moderator. Teachers are the backbone of our society. They educate and shape the minds of our future leaders, innovators, and citizens. Without teachers, we would not have the doctors, engineers, and scientists who drive our economy and development. They play a vital role in shaping our culture and values. Teachers are better than farmers because they contribute more significantly to the overall development of society. *Nneoma (against the topic):* Thank you, Moderator. While teachers play a crucial role in education, farmers are the backbone of our economy. They provide the food that sustains us, and their work is essential to huma...
