The Delta State Police Command agents detained 45-year-old Chiemenam Adigwe for allegedly producing counterfeit alcoholic beverages in Bomadi, the state's Bomadi local government area.
The defendant, who is a native of Akpo community in Aguata local government, Anambra State, is accused by the police of blending ethanol and water, adding taste, and then packing the phony drinks in empty bottles of well-known beverage brands that he typically purchases from Onitsha.
The suspect admitted that he had told the people he supplied that he often gets his drinks from Onitsha.
On April 25, 2024, at around 1100 hours, Adigwe was taken into custody when information concerning his fictitious production of alcoholic beverages in Bomadi was received.
Following receipt of the information, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, the State Commissioner of Police, gave the Bomadi Division's DPO instructions to make sure the culprit is located, apprehended, and charged.
The DPO then guided agents to the suspect's hiding place, where they apprehended him in possession of more than a hundred bottles of fake McDowell, Gordons, Chelsea, and Eagle Schnapps.
