Gov. Sule Approves ₦1bn Water Project in Effort to Address Water Scarcity at State-Owned University

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has sanctioned ₦1 billion to alleviate the water scarcity issue in Keffi metropolis.

On Friday, May 3, in the Keffi local government area of the state, Ahmed Kana, the general manager of the Nasarawa State Water Board, informed Professor Sa'adatu Hassan Liman, the new vice-chancellor of Nasarawa State University Keffi (NSUK), of this during a courtesy call.

Mr. Kana highlighted the strategic importance of the local university community while accompanied by top board management personnel.

He emphasized the water board's dedication to guaranteeing a sufficient supply of water for the Keffi people and the university community.

Mr. Kana pointed out that as of right now, just one, Keffi is receiving water from the Mada Water Scheme through a pump, and the vice chancellor was congratulated on her position.

He said that, in order to adequately solve the problem of water shortage in the area, the governor has approved a water project in Keffi worth roughly ₦1 billion.

Ms. Liman, for her part, praised the visit, the board's dedication to supplying water to the institution, and the actions made to resolve water-related issues at the residence halls for students.

The Vice-Chancellor underlined the university's dedication to working with the water board to find sustainable solutions for the water supply.

She emphasized the need of guaranteeing water access to students, especially those living off campus, and urged the government, acting through the board, to step up measures to alleviate the scarcity of water supplies in the surrounding area.

"You cannot imagine what we have seen in the hostel simply because there is no water, and it also affects the people's health," the woman continued. Therefore, it is much more important than previously that we talk with you about the water issue.

"I'll say that for the past week, we've had a water shortage, mostly because of a lack of electricity."
