Fake Alcohol: 100 Shops Are Closed by NAFDAC About 100 stores in the Ogbete Main Market in Enugu have been blocked by the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) due to allegations of selling phony alcoholic beverages.
During a well-planned raid, the agency also seized a truckload of tainted goods and detained four accused merchants.Martins Iluyomade, the head of NAFDAC's South East Zone, stated yesterday that the suspects were already under custody and will face charges following an ongoing investigation, following the raid and arrest.
According to him, the raid served NAFDAC's mission to protect the public's health and purge the South East of phony, adulterated, inferior, and unwholesome goods.
Since Friday, we have overrun the well-known Ogbete Main Market in Enugu, Enugu State and have closed 100 stores that were found to be peddling phony alcoholic drinks.
"Suspects were apprehended, and they are being held." We are committed to clearing the market of these unhealthy products, but this fake wine and other alcoholic beverages are being marketed to the general public and unsuspecting consumers," he stated.
The head of NAFDAC's zonal office stated that the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Police all actively collaborated on the intense operation, deploying people to carry out the well-planned raid.
