Attorneys and organized labor have reached an agreement that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) is not authorized to determine the wages of Nigerian employees.
One of the attorneys, Mr. Abdul Balogun (SAN), asserted that the FEC is not authorized by law to set the salary scale for government officers.
"Nothing in our statute books gives the FEC the authority to deliberate on minimum wage," he declared. It's against the law. The Federal Election Commission lacks the authority to make any decisions about minimum wage, hence any resolution they make on the subject will be invalid.
Additionally, human rights activist Barrister Daud Bello approved with Balogun's submission is something that ought to have been resolved by now so that we can move on to other things.
The minimum wage debate has been going on for far too long, and I thought the proper body would have made a decision by now. The FEC is not obligated to discuss minimum wage issues and has no business doing so. The legislation governing wages and salaries in the nation is broken by any minimum wage decision made by the FEC, he declared.
To him, the issue of minimum wage
