Islamic New Year's Day, July 8, is declared a public holiday in Oyo.

On July 8, 2024, the Oyo State Government has proclaimed Monday a work-free day in observance of Hijrah 1446AH, the Islamic New Year.

In a declaration signed by Prince Dotun Oyelade, Commissioner for Information, the state government recognized the importance of Hijrah in the lives of its Muslim citizens.

According to Oyelade, Monday, July 8, 2024, has been set aside as a day without work to commemorate the Hijrah, which marks the Prophet Muhammad's journey from Mecca to Medina in 622 AD.
This day is a show of respect and solidarity with the Muslim community, the commissioner emphasized. He urged everyone to take advantage of the opportunity to pray for Oyo State's and Nigeria's peace, unity, and prosperity.
"The Hijrah is a time for reflection, prayer, and community spirit. Let us come together on this day to pray for peace, unity, and prosperity in our state and our nation," Oyelade continued. He urged everyone to consider the lessons of Hijrah and to come together in the spirit of solidarity and brotherhood.

UST-IN: Kano Governor Enacts 24-Hour Curfew Due to Violent Demonstrations and Theft

A 24-hour curfew was imposed on Kano State on Thursday by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in reaction to the growing violence during the #EndBadGovernance demonstration.
