Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State, is facing allegations of N80 billion in fraud. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has brought this case against him. On Tuesday, the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the service of new charges in this case through Attorney Abdulwahab Mohammed.
The order was issued by Justice Emeka Nwite in response to an EFCC motion for substituted service on Bello.
Kemi Pinheiro, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and the anti-graft agency's lead lawyer, presented the application.
Bello, the immediate former governor of Kogi State, was represented by his attorney but was not present in court on Tuesday.
A bench warrant was issued by Justice Nwite last week against Bello in response to an EFCC's application to that effect
According to reports, the bench warrant was in conflict with a legitimate order from the Kogi State High Court that prevented the former governor from being arrested or detained until the matter was resolved through notice.
