The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has threatened to use force to carry out Justice Emeka Nwite's Wednesday ruling for the arrest of Yahaya Bello.
Kemi Pinheiro (SAN), the attorney for the EFCC, made the threat on Thursday and charged that Usman Ododo, Bello's replacement, had thwarted his client's attempts to carry out the order on Wednesday.
"Ohello, a person with immunity (Ododo) came to whisk him (Bello) away to abort his arrest," Pinheiro stated. We are aware that he is being housed in the home of his successor. A person is granted immunity, not a structure.
"We can request that the military enter the structure where he is being held in order to carry out the directive of this court," he murmured.
Pinheiro stated that "what is edifying for him (Bello) is to come to court and not to continue to play game," pointing out that the law permits the EFCC to enter a building in order to make an arrest.
He should provide the prosecution until next week to present the defendant, saying, "We know what to do," before the court. He is not allowed to obstruct the Constitution.
