The suspects, named as Yakubu Sani (30), Babangida Abdullahi (29), and Mohammed Abubakar (27), all of whom reside in Aso B Mararaba, Karu LGA, are accused of plotting to abduct Ibrahim Idris, who happens to be one of the suspects' uncles.
As to a press statement endorsed by DSP Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer in Nasarawa, Idris was approached by the suspects who threatened to abduct him unless he paid N2 million.
Nansel claimed that out of fear of being abducted, Idris obeyed and left the money at a location designated by the suspects.
Additionally, he stated that the suspects took the money and distributed it among by themselves.
"One of the suspects' uncles, Ibrahim Idris, lived at the same home, and the suspects allegedly plotted together to phone him.
They demanded a ransom of two million naira, threatening to kidnap him if he refused to pay.
"The victim, fearing abduction, left the entire amount demanded by the suspects at their designated spot; they then collected it and divided it amongst themselves." In the news announcement, Nansel mentioned AZ:5250/NAS/PRD/VOL.2/68 as the reference number.
According to the PPRO, the suspects who were detained have admitted to the crime, and efforts are being made to capture a second syndicate member who eluded capture.
