The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has summoned the Area Manager of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to appear before it on April 30, 2024 over the state's ongoing power outages and over-billing of customers.
In a similar vein, the lawmakers have also called on Yakubu Suleiman, the General Manager of the Nasarawa Electricity Power Agency (NAePA), to appear before the House on the same day.
This comes after a motion made under matters of public importance during yesterday's plenary in Lafia, raised by Solomon Akwashiki (SDP), a member representing Lafia Central. Akwashiki raised the issue on the House's floor, noting that the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (EADC) with epileptic In addition to fostering uncertainty, poverty, and hardship on their own, supply shortages and exorbitant consumer billing have a negative impact on the state's business climate.
He questioned the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company's (EADC) preference for collecting money by short-changing customers and charging them for electricity bills rather than replacing damaged transformers and wires as soon as they break.
"Mr. Speaker, honorable members, the government's main duties are to ensure the security and welfare of the people. This is a matter pertaining to our people's lives and enterprises.
"Now, the epileptic power supply by AEDC, lack of light, meters, and electricity maintenance by AEDC are the order of the day, causing anger everywhere."
