In an attempt to change the strategy, the federal government has stated that it will examine the national merger of federal technical colleges and science institutions.
During a one-day stakeholder workshop aimed at tackling the issues affecting technical colleges nationwide, Education Minister Prof. Tahir Mamman voiced his displeasure with the prior choice to combine technical and science colleges.
Mamman emphasized that the initial intent behind founding the technical colleges around the nation was compromised by the merging.
According to him, kids who have a strong interest in technical education should be the only ones admitted to technical colleges.
Prof. Mamman emphasized once more that students wishing to pursue science degrees have to enroll in legitimate colleges, pointing out that it was a to have combined the two schools in error.
He also bemoaned the poor enrollment in technical colleges, where students were supposed to receive training in skills that would revolutionize the nation.
