Nigerians have been cautioned not to eat raw bush meat in order to prevent contracting the lethal Mpox virus.
In order to lessen their risk of contracting the Mpox virus, they were also instructed to stay away from dead animal touch.
In an interview with TIMBLOGGIST in Ilorin, Dr. Yusuf Muhammad, the president of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (ARD-UITH) branch in Kwara State, provided the guidance.
According to Muhammad, mumps is a zoonotic infection that may infect humans and affect animals.
While new strains of the virus can occasionally emerge, the World Health Organization (WHO) has recently issued warnings stating This strain that is being found is a novel one.
There is concern that human antibodies may not be as effective in defending against it as they were against the previous strain. People are seriously threatened by this, so everyone needs to be alert, he said.
He identified the cause of monkey pox as a virus connected to the smallpox virus, which is now extinct.
According to Muhammad, the earliest symptoms are usually flu-like and include fever, chills, fatigue, headache, and muscle weakness. A painful or itchy rash with raised lesions that scab over is frequently the next sign.
But instead of panicking, he urged Nigerians to report suspicious cases to the closest medical facilities so that a thorough investigation and contact tracing could be completed.
