Lagos State Government Issues Executive Order to Improve Healthcare Provision

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has signed a comprehensive Health Insurance Executive Order in an effort to offer top-notch, reasonably priced, and easily accessible healthcare to the people living there.


Prof. Akin Abayomi, the state's commissioner for health, revealed this information during a press conference in Lagos and stressed that the program will greatly enhance the citizens' health results by


creating a controlled, regulated, fair, and long-lasting health


insurance plan that covers every Lagosian.


He claims that the project is in line with the National Health Insurance Authority Act of 2022, which mandates social health insurance at the state level in order to attain universal health coverage (UHC).


"Social health insurance, widely practiced in various forms, has numerous benefits," he stated. financial and social advantages. By distributing risk over a sizable population and pooling contributed funds, it reduces financial risk to individuals and improves protection.These programs offer fair social safety nets with the goal of attaining universal health coverage (UHC). Social health insurance programs are usually required in order to guarantee comprehensive coverage and optimize the benefits to society as a whole. The government is able to provide all citizens, regardless of socioeconomic situation, with a standard level of treatment thanks to the low contribution rates.


"The Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) oversees the Ilera Eko Social Health Insurance Scheme in the state of Lagos. On the other hand, private health insurance is usually profit-driven, competitive, optional, and driven by the private sector. It provides a broad range of services contingent on affordability. By fostering partnerships between private and social health Lagos is encouraging a platform for broad adoption and long-term healthcare coverage through insurance pathways.



He continued by saying the Executive Order, which the Governor had signed, contains a number of crucial elements meant to completely transform the way healthcare is delivered in the state.



"Promotion of Health Insurance: The government will launch an extensive campaign to encourage the culture of adopting health insurance as a social and economic necessity" is one of the components intended to guarantee complete, equitable, and sustainable health coverage for all people.
