Comrade Abdullahi Ango, the Mandate Secretary of the Youth growth Secretariat of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), has committed to creating policies that support innovative and sustainable youth business growth in the FCT.
According to Ango, this is in line with the federal government's renewed hope program and the administration of the Federal Capital Territory's efforts to give youth development and empowerment a high priority.
In honor of International Youth Day (IYD) 2024, which has as its subject "From Clicks to Progress, Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development," the mandate secretary announced this on Monday.
As he congratulated the FCT's young, he said that the topic for this year closely aligns with the secretariat's goal of enlightening, empowering, and meaningfully involving the youth that will support social justice and sustainable development.
"I would want to take this opportunity to thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Honorable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike for recognizing my qualifications for the pioneer mandate secretary position in the FCT Youth Development Secretariat.
"As we commemorate this day, we are reminded of our youth's enormous potential and the pressing need to utilize them for the advancement of our country. The focus of this year's theme is on how digital technology helps achieve Goal No. 9 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The United Nations Sustainable Development Group (UNSDG) identified the swift global digital transformation as one of the six transitions, as stated in the summary text for United Nations International Youth Day that function as multipliers and catalysts for all of the SDGs.
"The UN Secretary-General underlined the need to support individuals in navigating technological transitions, alongside demographic and climate changes, in the 2021 report Our Common Agenda," he stated.
Ango added that the UN had stressed that youth are the main force behind innovation and digitalization because they are the digital generations and visionaries who are leading the way in embracing new technologies and making up the largest group of users and developers who set global digital trends.
He said that as the globe becomes more digitally connected, there are never-before-seen possibilities to advance sustainable development. Digital innovations like mobile phones, internet services, and artificial intelligence, he said, are crucial to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
"Information derived from online exchanges provides evidence-based decision-making. Digital technology and data have a significant impact on economic, social, and environmental aspects, and they are responsible for at least 70% of the 169 Sustainable Development Goals.
"As the SDGs' 2030 deadline draws near, youth's contribution to digital innovation is critical to solving global concerns. As you are already aware, the FCT took several steps to reduce young unrest both before and during the demonstration.
The chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) FCT Chapter was appointed as the pioneer mandate secretary of the FCT Youth Development Secretariat, he said. "One such effort is the creation of a Youth Development Secretariat to address the aspirations of FCT youth."
