The governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has returned the N148 million that was taken out of retirees' paychecks in 2023 to cover health insurance premiums.
This was revealed in Ibadan by Dr. Sola Akande, the executive secretary of the Oyo State Health Insurance Agency (OYSHIA), who stated that the governor had given the money back to his organization.
We were able to present that return in a formal manner on Tuesday. I can now confirm that seniors have starting getting their 2023 refund bit by bit.
"I can confirm that the N4,000 that was withheld from primary school teachers has been returned to several local governments by the local government pensions board.
"I can report that around eight LGAs have submitted their list, as we requested the must convey the specifics of the pensioner deductions made by local government heads to their respective local governments.
He explained, "So we reconciled with our own document and they told us the account to remit into." The eight local governments will receive their return on Monday, according to Akande.
"The refund will be made, and we are awaiting the state pensions board to send the deduction package per pensioner," he continued.
Governor Makinde received praise from the head of OYSHIA for his dedication to citizens' health through the organization.
