Hundreds of young people in Dutse, the capital of Jigawa State, resumed their protest against hardship for a second day on despite the government of Jigawa State imposing a 24-hour curfew on protests.
According to LEADERSHIP, a coalition of security agencies was engaged in combat with demonstrators in the Zai neighborhood of the city, preventing them from advancing into the state capital's commercial district and other neighborhoods, as well as important buildings and retail establishments.
Our correspondent was informed by a resident of Zai Quarters that thousands of young people were resisting the security personnel's use of tear gas to disperse them while they were screaming various anti-government slogans.
On the other hand, thousands of young people reassembled and proceeded with the demonstrations on the following day.
However, protestors trying to enter the state capital center were obstructed by heavily armed security personnel stationed to blockade the route and use tear gas to scatter the demonstrators.
A local eyewitness attested to the fact that young people, including boys underage, were taken into custody by the police on Friday.
Because security guards were stationed along main thoroughfares and kept demonstrators from gathering, the situation in Gumel town was comparatively quiet.
However, things became unstable because there weren't enough security personnel to keep the young people in check for an extended amount of time.
