Protest: Ten people are hurt as thieves loot agricultural stores and set fire to the Jigawa APC secretariat.
When police used tear gas canisters to scatter criminals who had infiltrated #EndBadGovernance protestors around Jigawa State on Thursday, at least ten people were hurt.
Jigawa saw an unusual situation in the state's history when protests against hunger and suffering spread to over ten main towns throughout the state, accompanied by allegations of government property being looted and destroyed by thugs.
According to a report from Hadejia City, government-owned agricultural stores were plundered in the area, and four individuals were hospitalized after being injured and suffocating from tear gas thrown at them by Anti-Riot Policemen. In Gumel Town, the Jigawa shop, The State Agricultural Supply Company (JASCO), the home of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) zonal vice chairman, and a private residence owned by a member of the House of Representatives who represents the Gumel, Gagarawa, Maigarati federal constituency in the State were all vandalized and looted by the furious youths, who seemed to have overpowered the security personnel stationed nearby.
Nonetheless, it was claimed that one woman was hurt by the tear gas canister; she is presently being treated at Gumel General Hospital.
The State Fertilizer Store and the Grains Store in Birnin Kudu were plundered and trashed by the thugs, who also blocked the Kano-Maiduguri Higherway and other main roads that connected the area.
Five individuals were transported to Rasheed Shekoni General Hospital in Dutse, the State capital, as due to the wounds they received, and security personnel have been successful in stopping the thugs from damaging numerous public spaces. But the state secretariat of the APC in the nation's capital was set on fire.
The same thing was happening in the towns of Jahun, Kazaure, and Shuwarin as thugs dressed as demonstrators came to the streets to demand an end to corrupt leadership.
However, when young people start to band together against the advice of Islamic clerics and Traditional Rulers to not participate in the statewide #EndBadGovernance rallies, there were concerns that the demonstrations would expand to other local government regions of the State.
