Next month, APC might host NEC.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) will meet as a National Executive Committee (NEC) next month, barring a change of heart.

LEADERSHIP learned from a party source that President Bola Tinubu's availability between the first week of September and the 19th of the same month is the reason for the meeting's approval.

Additionally, it was learned that the NEC gathering will lay the groundwork for the organization of a non-elective national convention that is scheduled for later this year.

The first NEC meeting of the year will take place next month. Additionally, it would be the first with Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the former governor of Kano State, serving as national chairman.

Since Ganduje took office last year has been plagued by criticism from leaders of the North Central Party, who claim that he is violating the zoning agreement by taking the zone slot.

Muhammad Etsu, a 2022 APC chairmanship candidate, had filed a lawsuit to prevent Ganduje from posing as the party's national chairman.

Prior to the 2022 elective national convention, he had advocated for the national chairmanship position to be reallocated to the North Central zone.

The APC had assigned the position to the North Central, where Senator Abdullahi Adamu emerged as national chairman in the run-up to the 2022 national conference.

But in 2023, he submitted his resignation, making Ganduje—a native of North West—the next chairman.

Leadership was informed by a different party source that the NEC meeting would be a component of the president's actions to formally institute a stabilization procedure for the party in view of changing political currents in the North.

Even though informal efforts are "ongoing to assuage, reconcile, and firm the party base," the source noted that formalizing certain intra-party disputes and demonstrating the party's continued unity would require the NEC meeting and the national convention that followed.

In addition to the North Central's agitation, certain powerful APC figures, such as former governor of Kaduna Nasir El-Rufai, have become estranged from the group amid complaints from other party officials from the geographical that they are being left out of the political process.
