The First Lady of Borno is asking for six months of maternity leave for nursing mothers.

Dr. Falmata Zulum, the first lady of Borno State, has advocated for the government to provide six months of paid maternity leave to nursing moms in order to promote exclusive breastfeeding.

Inaugurating the 2024 World Breastfeeding Week in Maiduguri, Mrs. Zulum made the call yesterday.

Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo, the commissioner for women's affairs and social development, spoke on behalf of the group, stating that the week served as a clear call to action for group efforts and collective action to bring about revolutionary change.

She pushed for the creation of an all-encompassing support system that included welcoming businesses, neighborhoods, and healthcare institutions that accommodate breastfeeding mothers.

"I fully support six months of maternity leave for working mothers to practice exclusive breastfeeding," the speaker stated. "Closing the Gap, Breastfeeding Support" is the theme for All' emphasizes how important it is to be inclusive and universal in our efforts to create a setting that is welcoming to breastfeeding mothers and fathers.

"We issue a formal appeal for enhanced investments in comprehensive breastfeeding initiatives, improved breastfeeding counseling, and support for women within healthcare facilities and community contexts," Zulum said, in line with the policy recommendation made by the WHO-UNICEF-led Global Breastfeeding Collective.

Dr. Tushar Rane, the Chief of UNICEF Borno Field Office, expressed concern in his well-wishes letter on Borno's diminishing role in reaching the worldwide goal.

Teachers are better than farmers because they contribute more significantly to the overall development of society. *Nneoma (against the topic):* Thank you, Moderator. While teachers play a crucial role in education, farmers are the backbone of our economy. They provide the food that sustains us, and their work is essential to huma...
