Food Security: Ondo Starts Giving Farmers Access To Fertilizers

Yesterday marked the official start of the fertiliser delivery to farmers in Ondo State by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, as part of his administration's efforts to improve food security and assist the agricultural sector.


Farmers and other stakeholders in agriculture and food security turned out in big numbers for the flag-off event held at the Agric Warehouse in Akure.

Governor Aiyedatiwa issued an order during the ceremony for farmers in all 18 local government areas to receive 5,520 bags of NPK 20-10-10, 4,140 bags of NPK 27-13-13, 4,140 bags of NPK 15-15-15, and 4,200 bags of urea fertiliser.


The governor acknowledged that President Bola Tinubu has made it easier to get fertilizer through the Central Bank of Nigeria It is an essential step in increasing food output.


Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized that the fertilisers are not for sale and should not be politicised, while guaranteeing a fair and transparent distribution process.


"Our administration is dedicated to making sure the intended recipients of our palliatives receive them. We promise not to let the people of Ondo State down. "Food insecurity is a serious issue that needs to be addressed right away," Only thorough interventions that improve food production at every level will be able to accomplish this, he stated.


The governor listed a number of factors that contribute to food scarcity, such as financial instability, inadequate road networks, urbanization, climate change, and restricted access to farmland. She emphasized that in order to address these issues, a number of government initiatives, such as building Improving rural roads, improving safety, and distributing tons of corn in metric tons.


A N1 billion fund for discounted agricultural inputs and tractor rentals, as well as another N1 billion for subsidized food staples, were among the new initiatives unveiled by Governor Aiyedatiwa.


Earlier, Mr. Rotimi Wemimo, the senior special assistant to the governor on agriculture and agribusiness and chairman of the Committee on Agriculture and Food Security, assured that the fertilizers will be distributed in an efficient and open manner.
