On Thursday, thieves stole and set fire to the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) Industrial Park in Kano, which is still not yet operational.
Particularly from the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, who bemoaned the development as a setback for the country's journey to deepening its workforce for technology while creating job opportunities for the youth, the incident has sparked widespread concerns and condemnations.
According to LEADERSHIP, the attack on the Industrial Park coincides with the #EndBadGovernance demonstrations, which gathered at Kano's Government House to voice opposition to the nation's suffering and hunger.
Dr. Tijani responded to the news on X (previously known as Twitter), expressing his dismay. declaring, "We are sorry to hear that demonstrators have set fire to and looted our Digital Innovation Park in Kano, which was supposed to open next week to support our technical talent accelerator (3MTT)." Next week, this facility will host our buildathon holiday maker program for secondary school students, in conjunction with #3MTT. A minor blow to our efforts to increase the depth of our workforce in technology while giving young people opportunities for employment. A waste of millions of Naira.
The NCC Industrial Park was created to act as a center for digital innovation and to give young Nigerians access to technical education. The attack has prevented the expected launch of the buildathon holiday maker and the technical talent accelerator (3MTT) just days before its planned inauguration curriculum designed with secondary school pupils in mind.
