Pastor Umo Eno, the governor of Akwa Ibom State, has a cloned WhatsApp account that was hacked, and the impostor is presently using it to conduct fraudulent transactions involving millions of naira in the governor's name, LEADERSHIP discovered yesterday.
During one of the discussions, the governor asked a close buddy for help, asking him to wire N7 million to someone on the governor's behalf, promising to reimburse the money later. The governor was in the US for a state function at the time.
It was understood that the money was supposed to be sent to a specific account, but the officer in question allegedly suspected malfeasance and informed several important government figures.
Verifying the occurrence The governor's spokesperson, Mr. Ekerete Udoh, the chief press secretary (CPS), warned the people not to fall for the scammers' deceptive tactics.
In order to deceive gullible members of the public, certain criminal elements have cloned the WhatsApp number of His Excellency, the governor of Akwa Ibom State, and posted well planned false posts on several social media sites, he stated.
"We hereby warn the public that any message appearing to solicit funds by these imposters should be completely disregarded as they do not originate from the governor. Law enforcement officials have been duly notified and are actively pursuing the individuals responsible for this reprehensible act."
